Hall Thompson, C.M.G., on relinquishing l the duties of coastguard captain in the Portsmouth command, has joined the senior officers' technical course, which started this month. In the cours-s o£ a few weeks a .number of Naval officers and ratings will leave for duty on the New Zealand station. Commander Francis N. Miles, 0.8. E., has been appointed from H.M.IS. Curacoa to command
H.M.S. Philomel, and Lieutenant Tbomes B. R. Woodroffe, also of Curacoa, goes to the Philomel. . Appointments to H.M.S. Chatham include L:'outenan{-comma.nder Penrose L. Barcroft to be navigator; Lieutenant-commander Kenneth Edwards, O.S.C. (from H.M.S. Hood); Lieutenant Cecil C. Usher (from H.M.S. Danae); and Lieutenant Morvyn Somerset Thomas (from H.M.S. Vampire). The Isevr Zealanderfs will be noticed among these—namely, the first-mentioned and the last. Lieutenant-commander Barcroft has lately been serving in H.M.S. Spencer.
