FILLING LABELLED BOTTLES.

1A LYTTELTON , PUBLICAN CHARGED. FINE OF £2O IMPOSED. ’* (Per United Peers Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 30.. Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Lyttelton, Henry Scott Mr F. D. Sargent) was charged that, being the licensee Of the Canterbury Hotel, he did have in his possession, or under his control, bottles with labels affixed thereon, and without destroying such labels made use; of such bottles for the purpose of bottling liquor for sale. It was alleged that he used two bottles labelled ‘‘Old Liqueur Whisky,” and one bottle labelled “Johnny Walker Whisky” for the purpose of bottling draught whisky for Sale. Sergeant M‘Holm said that ou May 24 he visited the Canterbury Hotel. Witness asked where the draught whisky was, and Scott showed him the three bottles produced, which were on a shelf in the public ban Ho asked Scott why he had not destrbyed the labels before filling them. Scott replied that ho considered they were destroyed because they were dirty. The bottles were partly filled. A sample had been taken out of the “Johnny Walker” bottle for analysis. Witness looked through the private bar, and found all the liquors true to label. Mr Sargent stated that the evidence Svould not be disputed. Defendant was fined £2O.
