NATIONAL CONCERT
NEXT SATURDAY EVENING. The usual national concerts conducted at Winter Show time will commence this season next Saturday evening. On previous occasions these concerts were hold in Burns Hall, but owing to so many people having Had to be turned away, His Majesty’s Theatre, with nearly three times the amount of accommodation, has been secured this year. The association has a high reputation throughout Otago for the excellence of its concerts, and no effort or expense is being spared on this occasion to make them surpass all previous ones. Miss Bessie Fraser, of Sydney, the noted Scottish-Aua-tralian prima donna, to whom the association is paying a fee of £6O for three concerts, will make her first professional appearance in New Zealand on Saturday evening. This gifted singer enjoys a very high reputation throughout Australia, as is indicated by the fact that she receives a fee of 20 guineas for each concert in her home city of Sydney, and was paid 50 guineas for one concert in Perth, W.A., last year. The enterprise of the Otago Association in specially importing Miss Fraser for its concerts deserves every success. Her sister, Miss Winrde Fraser, whom the association engaged last year, sang with great acceptance at several concerts in the dominion. Another notable singer secured for Saturday evening is Mr Arthur Macdonald, the premier baritone of Christchurch. Several other performers from outside Dunedin will also appear and will be supported by the best local talent. It is asserted that, rarely indeed is such a galaxy of High -class artists over found on the; same programme.
