EVANGELISM EUROPE

A METHODIST THREAT. CATHOLIC DEPUTIES ALARMED. Jfress Association—By Telegraph— Copyright ROME, May 29. Recent statements in some American Methodist journals, in which it is asserted that barbarous Europe must be evangelised, beginning with Rome and threatening to purchase tihe Montemario, t:> erect a great Methodist institute, and to open schools at the gates of the Vatican, as "well as a Methodist university towering over St. Peter's, has given offence to the Catholic deputies who interpellated the Government on the subject. A warm discussion followed. The Government replied that it had the matter under consideration, which is interpreted to foreshadow intervention to prevent the Montemario fallincr into Methodist hands.— A. and N.Z. Cable.
