UNREST IN CHINA
MONARCHISTS PLOTTING
ANOTHER REVOLUTION PENDING
Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright
LONDON, May 27. Hie Daily Mail’s Peking correspondent says the events in Northern China point to another revolution shortly. One hundred and twenty thousand unpaid mercenaries are believed to have been won over to a Monarchist plot, engineered by Chang Tso-Lin, the former Governor of Manchuria. The head of the Chinese Royal Pamilv is Pu-Yi, who is still known as the Boy Ernperor. He is 16 years of ago. Last yo®r ho married a beautiful daughter of a somewhat obscure Manchu official. All China is seething with unrest, and the popular feeling is favourable to any change in the Provincial and Central Governments. Apparently Chang Tso-Lin is awaiting a favourable opportunity to press Pu-Yi’s claims.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
NEW PEACE OVERTURES
CHANGED ATTITUDE OF BANDITS,
PEKING, May 27. - (Received May 28, at 10.6 p.m.) The changed attitude of the bandits in sending Mr J. B. Powell (the American journalist), accompanied by two outlaws, to Tsao-chou, where they have just arrived, indicates new peace overtures. It is understood that the envoys, who are'empowered to negotiate for peace, will directly meet the authorities in conference. With a view to safeguarding the lives of the captors the bandits insist that the Foreign Legations shall join in signing an agreement, having more faith in the Legations than in the Government.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
