BRASS BANDS.
1924 CONTEST AT PALMERSTON NORTH. (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, May 25. The Now Zealand Brass Banda Association has granted permission to hold the 1924 contest; in Palmerston North. The required financial guarantees have been forthcoming, Mr E. R. B. Ilolbon having been successful in securing guarantees from Palmerston North residents of £ll6O in sums of from £5 to £250. The estimated amount necessary for nri/.e money and general expenditure is £1250, and (his has already been practically guaranteed. For the purpose of making preliminary arranger ents in regard to the contest a meeting was held this evening, the Mayor .(Mr I’ J. Nathaffi presiding. Mr Holben (president of the North Island Band Association'. explained that the contest would not lake place until February. The Chairman said that the contest would appeal to all classes of the community, and he could conceive of no better use for any surplus funds than the allocation proposed.
