GENERAL NEWS

Three services were held in connection with the church anniversary of the Caversham Methodist Church. The Rev. H. E. Bellhoase, chairman of the Otago and Southland District) conducted the morning service, and in the afternoon the Rev. E. P. Blamires, Y.P.’s organiser, conducted a special young people’s-service. The evening service was conducted by the Rev. G. P. Hunt. The choir rendered special anthems. The 1 concert on Thursday evening was largely attended, the Dundas Street Church Choir rendered an excellent programme. Mr J. Davidson, on behalf of the trustees and congregation, thanked the visitors for their assistance. The Rev. G. P. Hunt, who' presided, spoke of the good progress that had been made in the face of difficulties and reverses. Serious damage had been done to the church and hall property by the flood, but the trustees were taking steps to have this repaired. The celebrations then closed with the Doxology. ,The committee meeting of the Mosgiel Brass Band on Wednesday night was well attended. Mr James Henderson presiding. The draft report and balance sheet for the annual meeting to be held in a fortnight was read and approved. A number of accounts was passed for payment. Reports showed that* arrangements for the forthcoming bazaar were well in hand.
