Replying to a deputation of suburban bodies in regard tO' the damage clone to roads by heavy commercial motors, the Prime Minister said he did not think it possible to raise ail the money required tor main roads maintenance. At the present time New Zealand’s credit was good in London; but if we sought to borrow millions for this purpose, and were found to be not getting good value for the money, our credit would drop to zero. Many county councils could do more chan they were now doing. He said that there would be legislation limbing the weight of vehicles carried on certain roads, and an adjustment of the revenue from the license fees of commercial and motor vehicles.
