KIWI SWIMMING CLUB

QUESTION OF DISQUALIFICATION. PREVIOUS RESOLUTION RESCINDED. At a meeting of the Otago Centre, New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, Held on Thursday night last, the question of an alleged professional having acted as an official at (he Kiwi Club carnival was further discussed, and it was decided to rescind the following motion, which was carried at the Centre's last meeing: “That the Otago Centre write to the council in Christchurch giving all the facts and recommending that the officials of the Kiwi Club be disqualified.” The following motion was carried: “That the Kiwi Club bo asked to explain why it appointed as starter a gentleman who was not recognised as an amateur.” The Kiwi Club delegates then explained that this gentleman had been appointed as starter under the_ impression that he was an amateur under - the N.Z.A.S.A. rules, as he was considered an amateur in other sports. After the matter was fully discussed the following motion was unanimously carried; “That this meeting, having received the Kiwi Club’s explanation, decides that no further action bo taken in the matter.” The Chairman pointed out that it was very desirable in the interests of amateur swimming that only amateurs, as defined by the rules of the N.Z.A.S.A., be allowed to officiate at swimming carnivals. It was therefore necessary that this matter be thoroughly investigated. Daring the discussion is was freely admitted that it was not intended to cast any discredit on any officials of the Kiwi Club, ana almost every member expressed regret that it should have been necessary to have this matter thoroughly investigated. A motion was carried that a ruling be obtained from the N.Z.A.S.A. in regard to the status of the gentleman who acted as starter, while it was not intended to cast any reflection on his capabilities or integrity as a starter.
