A SOVIET REPRISAL
AMERICAN PROPERTY SEIZED. . Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright WASHINGTON, May 18. The State Department has been informed that the Soviet seized 300,000 dollars’ worth of property belonging to American companies at Vladivostock when the American Consulate was closed on April 27. The British, French, and Italian Consuls also left, the Japanese and Chinese being the only Consuls remaining. —A. and N.Z. Gable. Vladivostock advices on April 27 stated that the American Consul there was leaving on May 1 and was advising all Americans to do likowisy. The Chita Consul was also leaving: It is understood that the Soviet demanded that Washington Should request Moscow to extend official recognition to American officials. Mr Hughes replied by ordering the withdrawals.
