The fortnightly, mooting of the St. Joseph’s Branch of the H.A.C.8.5.. Mo. 7 6, was held in St. Joseph’s Hall, Rattray street, the President, Bro. J. J. Marlow, jun., occupied the chair. There was a largo attendance of members. The quarterly balance sheet was read and adopted. The branch auditors gave their report and the President, in moving its adoption, rolcrred to the sound position that the branch was in. Bro. D. Criton, who seconded the adoption, also referred to the creditable position the branch was in, and also the manner in which now members were coming forward. Bros. It. Simpson and A. Gillick reported that they represented the branch at a social evening hold in Port Chalmers on May 1. Both brothers spoke very highly regarding the hospitality tendered to them at that function. The St. Patrick’s Branch, South Dunedin and St. Mary’s Branch, Port Chalmers, and members of the Ladies’ Club, who had been invited for a social evening, attended in large numbers and were heartily welcomed by the President, Bro. J. J. Marlow, who said that he hoped all would enjoy themselves, and that during the winter there would bo many such pleasant and enjoyable gatherings. He said that they were assembled there that night to witness another important event in the history of the branch, and that was the unveiling of the merit board. He then called upon the District Deputy (Bro. J. J. Marlow) to perform the ceremony. The District Deputy, in his opening remarks, said that it afforded him great pleasure to be asked to perform this ceremony. In a stirring speech ho referred to the great work and splendid example set us by those brothers whoso nai'nes appeared on the board. He hoped that the younger members would raise themselves to that high and important office. The President (Bro. E. MTlroy) returned thanks on behalf of the Ht. Patrick’s Branch and Bro. Brown returned thanks on behalf of St. Mary’s Branch. Bro. J. E. Dunn responded on behalf of the Ladies’ Club. This closed the business meeting and a card tournament took place. The ladies’ first prize was won by Miss M. Lauren and second prize by Miss A. Quinn. The gentlemen’s first prize was won by Bro. P. Burno, Bro. Beams winning the second prize. Musical items were given by Miss A. AThy and Mr A. Young, after which refreshments were served, and dancing was then indulged in. The St. Patrick’s Branch hold its fortnightly meeting in St. Patrick’s Schoolroom on Wednesday last. The President (Bro. E. MTlroy) presided over a large attendance of members. The President reported that the branch attended the social evening given by the St. Joseph’s Branch No. 73 in St. Joseph’s Hall on Thursday. May 15, and hoped that the social part was now to continue between various branches. A card tournament was then enjoyed, mifTtho prizewinners were Bros. Monaghan 1, and Kerr 2. Songs and stories by several members brought a pleasant evening to a close.
