NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS
CABINET CRISIS RUMOURED. (From Oue Ow»i Correspondent.) SYDNEY, May 9. Garrulous Dame Rumour is again busying herself with the State political situation. There is much talk of threatened crisis in the Cabinet , and of an “inevitable” rearrangement of portfolios. Added to all this, the question of the 'appointment of a new Governor and an Agent-General has let loose a flood of speculation. First of ail, it has freely been mentioned that Sir Walter Davidson will take up the post of Agent-General after his retirement as State Governor next year. This suggestion has met with the approval of a number of public, bodies, who see in Sir Walter one whose particular knowledge of Australian conditions might conveniently be placed at the disposal of intending new settlers. But then there is Sir George Fuller to consider. He will return to Sydney, in accordance with his promise to his party, several months hence. Then, according to a source usually regarded as authoritative, he will wend his way to England to become Agent-General for a definite period. In that event the matter of his successor is one that will be eagerly canvassed. Old parliamentary hands say that Mr Oakes has done so well as ActingPremier that he should be confirmed in the position at any time that Sir George Fuller cares to vacate the Premiership. It is at that point, however, that the Minister of Justice (Mr Ley) comes into the picture. Ambitious, somewhat restive under the conditions of his present office, and with a powerful following in the party. Mr Ley can be counted upon as a serious contender for the office.
