. The prevalence has been noticeable recently of a somewhat peculiar complaint on the hands-of many people in Timaru (reports the Timaru Post). It consists of a small sore on the finger nail just where the cuticle covers the nail. A fortunate escape from serious injury to his eyes was the experience of Raymond Lawson, aged 18, who is in charge of the electrical department of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company’s factory at Waharoa (says the Wanganui Chronicle). The youth was effecting some repairs; when, owing apparently to some defect in tho line, a flame of fire shot past, just in front of his eyes, dazzling him, and rendering him temporarily blind. He was brought to Hamilton, whore he received ophthalmic attention, and at latest advices it was anticipated that his eyesight would be completely restored in a day or two.
