MINING.
The Kiss and Shine dredge reports a return of 16oz 6dwt for 130 hours’ dredging. The following progress report has como to hand front the New Waiotahi mine:—The men employed on the footwall drive have been engaged cutting through the reef to reach the hangingwall, which is now exposed. The lode at this point is fully 4ft wide, composed of two nice ribs 6f stone. That on the hangingwall side is about 18in of friable quartz, carrying a fair amount of silica with blotches of bright mineral and blend. No gold has so far been seen in it, and only a small portion has been broken out, hut this band of stone looks well. On the footwall side there is a rib of stone 16in wide, which has' shown gold freely. A small parcel of picked stone has been secured. Work on the footwall slopes on the small leader has been temporarily suspended to enable work in the drive to bo carried on with two shifts The manager of the Moanataiari mine reports:,—The crosscut was advanced last week 154 ft, and is now in 8051 ft from the main level. The country has been fairly firm, and is now easier to work.
