CROSS-CHANNEL GLIDE

(Received May 6, at 11.5 p.m.) An attempt by ‘ Georges Barbot to win the prize of 25,000 francs offered by _ Le Temps for crossing the Channel in a glider failed after he had been two hours ascending at Saint Inglevert-sur-Lyropne with a 15 horse-power engine. The small supply of petrol allowed carried him 2OQott up. Crowds at Cape Grisnes watched Barbot hovering. Two seaplanes which were expected to accompany the. glider failed to appear, and Barbot was forced to make a descent, but his long hovering in the air was in itself a, feat. —A.' and N.Z., Cable.,
