John Kersie, of Liverpool, was charged on April 10 with inciting a man named Connolly to murder' Mrs Kersie in order to secure the insurance money under the newspaper insurance scheme. Kersie elaborated a plan under which Connolly, attired in a. white sheet, should .. appear suddenly before the woman, and, while she was in a state of terror, tip her over the stair banisters. If this did not break her neck, Connolly was to finish her off with a coal-hammer. Connolly 'was to receive £IOO for his trouble. Connolly apparently agreed to the terms, but unfolded the plot to Mrs Kersie, and the police subsequently arrested Kersie.
