ORPHANS’ CLUB.
OPENING NIGHT. There was a very good attendance of members and friends at the opening night of the Dunedin Orphans’ Club last night, Bro. H. F. Noes (vice-president) occupying the chair, in the absence, of the president (Bro. G. W. M'rnlosh). The Mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas) and the Mayor-elect- (Mr H. L. Tapley) were present, besides several other visitors. A motion of sympathy was passed in connection with the death of Bro. S. Jacobs, a late vice-president of the club, the members standing in silence. During the evening a presentation, of a baton was made by the club to Bro. L. Borrow. the conductor of tho orchestra. The musical programme was, as usual, a really .attractive one, and was provided by the following:—Bros. T. Bacbop, F. G. Duncan, T. VV. Dqbbie, S. G. Angoll, J. D. Cameron, F, Williams, J. B„ M‘Connell, C. H. Russell, J. B. Flynn, The Quartette, A. N. Watson, J. W. Stewart. Some enjoyable entertainment was also provided by the orchestra, which played: —Overture, “Strndella” ; march, “Marino Festival” ; Toreador song (“Carmen”); march, “The Trumpeters.”
