US. PATROL SHIP.
WELCOME TO SAMOAN GOVERNOR. (Pee United Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, April 30. The official welcome to the United States vessel Ontario and the Governor of American Samoa (Captain Pollock) took place today. Salutes between the Ontario and tho Chatham were exchanged, and at 10 a.m. Mr Macvitty, the United States Consul, paid an official call on Captain Pollock. The Governor then came ashore to be met on behalf of the Government at the Consulate offices. The Government representatives were the Hon. C. J. Parr, Mr J. D. Gray (Secretary of External Affairs), and Mr J. Hislop (Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs). . A civic reception was held in the Town Hall at noon. The mayor (Mr Gunson) presided, and Mr Parr represented tea Government. Captain Pollock will be a aruest at Government House to-night, end he and his ttaff leave for Rotorua to- ' morrow morning. They spend Wednesday and Thursday there, and proceed to Wellington on Friday, paying a visit en route to the Waitomo Caves. Nest weekend will be spent in Wellington.
