During the entertainment community singing was very enthusiastically joined in. some of the numbers called for being “Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Rag.’’ “Peggy O'Neill,’’ and “Abe. My Boy.” Ai the conclusion Miss Walker (matron of (he home) thanked Miss Crawford and the performers for the entertainment. Miss Walker railed for cheers. Miss Crawford responded, promising that, as requested, a repeat entertainment would lie given in the near future. The performers were then entertained by the matron and the elder girls of the home m simper, after which Miss Crawford calk'd for cheers for Miss Walker and her girls for fho hospit-alitv they bad shown to tho “0 P.” Concert Party, this request being spiritedly accorded. MOTOR BOAT RACING. TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Mr Waters shys at a discussion of facts and details of handicapping, and indulges in what lie calls his “surmise.'’ “If my surmise i.s correct,” says Mr Waters, "your correspondent has been connected with the sport for about four years only.” As I have been a. close follower of (ho sport, end have raced boats since 1905, Mr Waters's “surmise” is as groundless as Ids arguments in favour of sealed handicaps are antiquated. By the way, did the boat in which Mr Waters says he is interested "give it a go” in the harbour race. Mr Waters is still convinced that an interview between tho handieapper and myself would result in my being convinced that everything in handicapping was all right. I know, and every hontownor knows, that serious mistakes occur. It was with the object of avoiding these in future that I wrote to your contributor “Rudder” asking certain d"fini(e questions. Mr Waters rushed impetuously into print, and has added nothing of value to the point at issue. I did not ask nnr expect that your columns could nr would ho used to “dis<uss the handicaps of every race.” but I did think some authoritative explanation of anomalies in recent handicaps might have been offered. Mr Waters has suggested secret handicaps as a solution. _ but. such a proposal shows that he is not in line with modern ideas. Unless Mr Waters will get down to definite cases of inexcusable handicaps he had better cease letter writing.— X am, etc.. Enthusiast.
