BOWLING.

EASTER TOURNAMENT. RINKS PLAY. The rinks section of the annual Easter tournament of tho Dunedin Bowling Centro opened on four greens yesterday—Balmacewen, North-East Valley, Caledonian, and Dunedin, The entries for the tournament—--64 rinks and 144 pairs—have been most gratifying to the executive of the Dunedin Centre. The games were of 16 heads, with a time limit of two hours, two rounds being played in tho morning and two in the afternoon. The first round was a qualifying round, after which the winners were transferred into tho provincial rinks and the losers into the city rinks. The greens were in admirable condition, and the day kept line, though at times the wind was unpleasantly cold. In tho first round of the Provincial rinka, at the Valley Green. Hogg and Campbell were 6 all after the seventh head, then Hogg drew away and led 11—6 after, the 11th. Campbell was 14—13 when the last head commenced, but off it Hogg scored a hraco and won by a point. When tho 16 heads had been played in the game between TUbiun and Thomson the score was 14 all, to an extra head was played, Tilburn scoring a single off it and winning. The closest finish in the first round of the City rinks was in the contest between Lindsay and J-anc. The Caledonian Green played very nicely, and was running true in the morning, but in tho afternoon a strong wind got up, and made play tricky, and a fair number of Fowls took an erratic course. Three unstamped howls were found amongst tho players, who continued the game with other bowls that met requirements. C. _ Anderson's win from Easton became decisive after the 10th head, when he got a 3, a 4, and wound up with a 5. Tyrrell, had made 19 before his opponent (Pryde) had scored. A 5 and a 4 were largely responsible for the majority obtained by Glover over Davidson. The other games in the qualifying rounds were generally close. In the first and second rounds of the Provincial and City rinks play was close in nearly all instances. Gale, however, made a runaway game of it with Portman, and had compiled 13 before the West Harbour team got going. Davidson scored heavily against. Abbott, his total of 20 including a 5. Mitchell’s majority over Easton was almost entirely due to the maximum being .obtained at the 13th head, where Easton made an unlucky drive. The 9up with which Smith finished his game with Owen was chiefly due to a 5 at tho 12tn end. Owen got sat the previous head, when 10 behind his opponent. There was a good game between Bentley and Smith, Bentley drawing the shot in the last head with his remaining bowl, when Smith was lying game with 3 or 4 shots. The referees on tho various greens were Messrs J. C. Whit-claw, W. Miller, F. J. Lough, and W. Connor. The following arc the results; DUNEDIN GREEN. Qualifying Round. Section A. F.
