SIXTY YEARS AGO FROM THE Otago Daily Times. " Inveniam viam aut faciam." FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 1863.

SUPREME COURT—CRIMINAL SESSIONS. Thursday, 26th March. i (Before His Honor Mr Justice Richmond.) Aliens as Grand Jurors. When the witnesses hud been sworn in the first case that was to be sent to the Grand Jury, Mr Henry Driver (who had served during Wednesday) mentioned to His Honor that lie was an alien. Ho thought, therefore, that lie might not serve on the Grand Jury. His Honor said ho thought that as Mr Driver was essentially one of ourselves, and enjoyed all the advantages of our laws, he ought not to seek to evade any of tho responsibilities of citizenship. Mr Driver said ha had no such wish; but ho understood that, if objection was taken, tho fact of his not being naturalised would invalidate those proceedings in which he look part. His Honor thought that Mr Driver might have felt sure that no such objection would be raised. Now. as the point had been mooted, ho would be excused. But Mr Driver had bettor lose no time in securing naturalisation. Mr Driver; I think, your Honor, but that is a matter upon which I am the best judge. Ilis Honor: Very well; but that is my advice to you, very decidedly. Kua Pere 36, Cute Lad 48, Coal Light 60, Ladv Evelyn and Her LadvsLip 72, All Mac 108,'All Bell 132. Man o’ War 340.
