Tfip Central Mission officials lia.ro arranged a public farewell to their superintendent Rev. C. Eaton, who leaves shortly for Wellington. Ibis farewell takes place in the Octagon Hall on Tuesday evening next, when short; addresses will be given by tile Mayor, Hon. C. E. Stuthani. M.P., Revs. Rugby Pratt and Knowles Keinptoii. Tho musical programme will be contributed to by Miss Mecla Paine, Mrs Geo. Scott, Mr A. Jones, choir anthem and quartette. Opportunity will bo taken to make several presentations. The general public are heartily invited to join in making this farewell of a 'thoroughly representative character, as tho departing minister has been a prominent figure in the life of our city during his residence and ministry here. Gaul’s “Passion Music’’ will be sung for the first time in Dunedin on Wednesday next under the direction of Mr E. Heywood, E.R.C.O. The work, which consists of six scenes, is more extensive than' the usual lenten cantatas. The scenes are (1) The traitor at the table. (2) The denial in the Palace. (3) Tho unjust condemnation. (4) The mockery of Calvary. (5) The shadow of Death. (5) The Holy Sepulchre. The annual meeting of tho local branch of the British and Foreign Sailors’ Society will be held in. the. Sailors’ Rest, Rattray street, on Monday at 8 o’clock. Addresses will be delivered by the Revs, Graham IT. Balfour and R Haino. and Mr R. Powell, of the C.1.M., who will tell of his experiences with the men of tho British Navy during tho Boxer Rebellion. Good Friday services will bo held in First Church under the auspices of the' Council of Christian Congregations. Rev. Graham H. Balfour will preach in the morning and Rev. R. H. Knowles Kempton in the evening. Collections will bo made in aid of the funds of the council. Easter services will be held at the Moray Place Congregational Church on Sunday evening, when the greater part will bo given over to the rendering of Stainer’s “Crucifixion.” At Thursday’s practice both choruses and solos went woll, and there is every promise of a performance worthy of the theme being given. Ihe soloists are Mr T. Bachop (tenor), Mr J. D. M‘Kechnio (bass), Mr J. Paterson (bass), while Mr Gommell will conduct and Mr Roi Don will officiate at tho organ. Tho service will bo under the direction of the Rev. Wm. Saunders.
