RIFLE SHOOTING
AREA U A. DUNEDIN. ANNUAL MEETING. The rain on Saturday made conditions rather unpleasant on the Pelichet Bay range, where the annual rifle meeting of Area U A, Dunedin, was commenced. There was no wind to trouble the competitors, and possibles were obtained in several cases. Record entries were received for both series, A and B, the former attracting 130 competitors and the latter 05. The range management, in charge of Major li. E. Barrowclough, Lieutenant S. M. Satterthwaite, lieutenant S. N. Gillman, and Captain Hunt, was all that could be desired, and ou the whole the meeting was very successful. Colonel E. E- Smith and Major E. H. Dampen visited the range m tue afternoon, when the former, in Presenting the prizes to the winning competitors, emphasised the value of musketry in military work. The meeting will be continued on Saturday nest, when a series open to Cadets under the age of 17 on December 31 last will be fired, and on the following Saturday there will be a senes of Lewis, Hotchkiss, and Viokers gun matches.
