N.Z. CRICKET COUNCIL
OTAGO v. WELLINGTON MATCH. WELLINGTON’S ACTION CRITICISED. (Pun United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 2. At the quarterly meeting of tile Now Zealand Cricket Council the chairman (Mr J. S. Barrett) congratulated Wanganui on its record in the Hawke Cup fixtures, and said that only one more match for this trophy would he played this year. Ho regretted that more matches had not been played for tho Hoathcote Williams Shield owing to the intervention of examinations and school vacations. In regard to the M.O.G. tour he said it was impossible at present to give an accurate estimate of the financial result of tho tour. With good gates in Australia they would bo able to regard their pecuniary position without any groat qualms. With regard to sending Home a dominion team in 1924. ho bad the word of enthusiasts that no difficulty would be experienced in financing tho tour. Mr D. Rcdpath expressed annoyance at the action of tho Wellington Association in condemning the Management Committee for ordering the abandonment of the Phtnkcl, Shield match, Otago v. M ellington. If Wellington had boon comnel.ed to complete the match, bo said, and h;id been defeated by Otago, and had then defeated Canterbury, the last-named would still have been in a j vsilion to play off in the final. Ho dcprec.-’d (ho action of a certain section of the Wellington Association in bringing forward such a complaint. The council hail been irritated before by tho action of tho Wellington Association. Ho thought the council should support tho Management. Committee, and he moved—-“ That this meeting expresses its entire approval of tho action of the Management Committee in ordering the abandonment, of the Otago-Wellington match.” The motion was carried unanimously.
