V.R.C. AUTUMN MEETING. SUNBURST WINS NEWMARKET HAND ICAR. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyri MELBOURNE, March 1 (Received Alar. 4, at 5.5 p.m.) For the- opening day ot Iho V.R.C. autumn meeting there was dull and muggy weattier, with a. north-east wind blowing early in the day. There was a big attendance. The cx-Ncvv Zealander British Arch led from the last jump m the hurdle race, and ran wed. E. J. Mooney rode the winner. Ncorilim lost lus rider at the lust jump. In Urn bt. Leger, the favourite, Caserta, was last early in the race, but won easily by three lengths. Caserta was bought iu December by Mr B. Chaffey for about i'Tlaa. Great interest was evinced in the Essen don Stakes. Harvest King was lust early in the race, but was fifth at the half-mile post and led from the distance, winning comfortably raid beating the fast-finishing Eunthmic, who was last at the home turn. Sister Olive, who was a good third, is engaged in the Australian Cup'with a weight of 3.9. Harvest King received a good reception on returning to scale. W. Duncan rode Tangalcoma, who was fourth. In the Newmarket Handicap the .favourite, Sunburst, who was always prominent on the outer rails, won smartly fiom Easingwoid, who finished with great dash. The victory was popular. Sunburst is owned by Mr Eric Conolly, who won last year witn Rostrum. Sunburst has had four wins and one second in the last fivo starts. King’s Carnival, who is own£d by the chairman of the club, led all the way in tho Sires’ Produce Stakes, and scored easily. King’s Carnival cost £675 as a yearling, and. is a Derby colt. The Auckland Automobile Association's motor races were held yesterday at Muraiwai Beach in perfect weather. The New Zealand Motor Cup (50 miles) was Won by F. Sanderson (Vauxhall), A.
