Italy desired private agreements with Prance without tying herself to the Alliance. Italy wished to continue the policy of autonomy, and would only accept alliances completely guaranteeing her interests and assuring J, he world’s peace. * Italy, he said, would combine with France for the final resumption of the Near Eastern negotiations, which lie hoped would be resumed at Lausanne, not at Constantinople.
