OTAGO v. CANTERBURY. The annual rnterprovinciol lawn tennis match between Otago and Canterbury was commenced at Anderson’s Bay on Saturday morning, but the conditions were newer at any time satisfactory, and as they gradually became worse, play was finally abandoned for tho day about noon. During the morning five matches were completed—four of tho mixed doubles and ono of the ladies’ singles—and of these Crinterbury had won four and lost one. Nevertheless the various games were very closely contested. and there was every indication of a. highly interesting contest. When play was abandoned the match between Glariville and Mrs Halo (Christchurch) and Guy and Miss M’Laren was in progress, tho Christchurch pair haring lost tho first set 5—6 and having won the opening gamo of tho next set. The Christchurch team includes among its number Mrs Gar butt, who is perhaps better known to Dunedin players as Miss W. Blyth. Tho match will cither bo resumed or commenced afresh at 9.30 a.m. to-day. The following were the scores at the close of play on Saturday, tho names of the Christchurch players being mentioned first; — Mixed Doubles.—Goss and Mrs Wright lost to Bray and Miss Pattison I—6. 5—6: Borrows and Miss Spiers beat M'Dougal! and Mrs Evans 6—5. 6—5; Halo and Miss Bloxam beat Duthio and Miss M’Adani 6—3, 2—6, 6—4: Browning and Mrs Garbutt beat Clark and Miss Barclay 6—4, 6 — 4. Ladies’ Singles—Mrs Walso beat Miss Barclay 9 —7. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP IN CHRISTCHURCH. At the dose of the luncheon Mr S. N. Brown (president of tho Otago Lawn Tennis Association) extended a very hearty welcome to the visitors and expressed regret that the weather conditions had not been more favourable for play. Mr W. Goss, in retaining thanks on behalf of tluj visitors, made the interesting statement tliat tho New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association at Us meeting last week had decided that tho next dominion championship tournament should bo held m Christchurch. He hoped they would sea a strong contingent of Dunedin players on that occasion. • VISITORS ENTERTAINED. At night, the members of the visiting team wore the guests of (he Otago Lawn Tennis Association at iho vaudeville and afterwards at supper. Yesterday they were taken a motor drive to Taieri Mouth.
