EMERY BROTHERS’ CIRCUS
Owing to counter-attractions tie largo tent at Emory Bros.’ Circus, King Edward road, South Dunedin, was only about threequarters full last night, when a most enjoyable programme was provided. The circus, which was very well patronised in the north, is unfortunate in appearing in Dunedin at this season when, there are so many other attractions. The programme provided was a good one and certainly deserved a larger audience, but those present did not stint their applause.. The traditional clown was very much in evidence during the evening, and his quips and jests were very entertaining. Considerable amusement was caused' by tho attempts of several boys to ride Bucking Tommy, a very small buokjumper. None of. them were successful in sticking on tho pony’s back for more than a few seconds. A young man then ventured on the pony, but was thrown instantly. Although the audience enjoyed the fun immensely, nobody else was tempted to “have a try.” Tho WalialLa Bros., two trick violinists, played popular airs in all kinds of grotesque attitudes, and, at the conclusion of their turn. More greeted with well-deeerved applause. Madame Emery executed some difficult work on the trapeze, and her daring act was also loudly applauded. Mr Emery then led a fin© pony, Starlight, into the ring, and the animal performed many clever tricks. One of the most popular acts of the evening was Miss Blonde Hayes’s balancing turn. .She rode a bicycle wheel along a wire and did notuse a parachute to assist her in keeping her balance. The Wahalla Bros, did some clever spinning with hats, tossing them from one to the other with bewildering rapidity and deftness. Killamcy, billed as the “Undefeated Buckjumper,” defied all attempts to ride him. Performing dogs and nonies also feature on the programme. Another performance will be given at King Edward road to-night.
