THE ASSESSMENT COURT. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Your report in this morning’s issue in regard to Assessment Court proceedings is incorrect in some of the details. I objected to the valuation of a house, mainly on two grounds; (1) Conditions under which the previous owner was rated and let the house had not changed, except that I am letting the whole house furnished at the same rent as the previous owner received for three ox the furnished rooms (practically reducing the rent). (2) Larger and better houses in the neighbourhood were assessed at a lower valuation. Your report states that the house was purchased for £240. That was the sum mentioned as the cost of building the house 35 years ago. In justification of his increased assessment the valuer stated that I had nut in a bath and installed a hotwater' service. Tlieso were in the house long before 1 purchased it.—l am, etc., Mary M'Caetht. February 27,
