.'reca Association—By Ttlogmph—Copyright LONDON, March 1. (Received March 1, at 7.20 p.m.) There was an amazing and bitter scene in the House of Commons when Mr C. W. Crook, in his maiden socech, moved a motion urging strict control of alien immigration. Mr Guy Paget angrily declared that the Scottish Labourites were not returned by Scottish votes. Mr I). Kirkwood (Labour) : “If it hadna’ been, for the Scotch the Germans would have leathered yc.” Mr Paget angrily retorted: “The actions of some of the Commoners caused the death of the gallant 15th Division in which I served.” Pandemonium ensued. Mr Kirkwood leaped up passionately, and moving Iris hands menacingly shouted: “You are a liar.” Mr Robertson (Labour): “I had four sons in the war.” Mr Buchan, who was also attempting to get at Mr Paget, called him “a dirty cur.” The Speaker intervened, saying that Mr Paget’s remarks were offensive. Mr Paget apologised, and the motion was carried bv 212 votes to 107.

A Labour amendment—“ That the right of asylum in England be preserved for a.,” —was defeated.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
