GAELIC SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society was held last evening in Kroon s Hall. Chieftain D. Munro was in the chair, and lefor© proceeding: with the- musical procrajnmo lie maxi© reference to the recent demise of Mrs M'Donald, of Port Chalmers, a Highland lady from Lewis, and called upon Piper George Mnnro to play a hunent as a tribute of respect for the departed. The musical programme waa opened by Mr Cameron singing a Gaelic song, “ Haneagh a Ghaelic teas." In the second part Mr Cameron gave “ Oran a seann mhaighann.” Other Gaelic singers were Mr William Morrison, “ Snas lois a Ghaelic,” “ Own na raton,” and “Ma rihhinn og ”; Miss Kennedy, "Hi oro’s na horo eile ” and “ Pear a Chata ” ; Mr M'Beath, “M’ Mhairi Lurach” ; Mr Kennedy, “ Seinn an duann so”; Mrs Robertson, " Deis a Lurgninn ”; Chieftain D. Munro, “ Mndghdeanan, na h’ airidh.” Mr Waterson gave a pleasant rendering of “ The Rattle of Stirling, and to a recall sang “ When tho Ebb Tide Flows.” Mrs Carter sang with much acceptance “ The Auld Scotch Sanga ” and “ Loch Lomond,” and Miss Rusell " Annie Laurie.” Miss Georgina Munro danced a seanntruibhais, and Jemima Munro the swords. Mr Clark gave a clasical rendering on the violin of “ The Harp and Cloymore” and “ Tho Bonnie Lass of Bon Accord,” to mus’c set by Mr J. Scott Skinner. Mr George Munro and Mr Mackay played the national music, and Mr Alex. M'Kenzie was M.C.
