PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. A WIN FOR CANTERBURY. A MEMORABLE CONTEST. (Per United Pbess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. February 28. The Blanket Shield match Wellington v. Canterbury was concluded to-day. There was rain during the morning and showers at. intervals delayed play till 4.25 p.m. The surface of tho wicket was slippery, bub fairly firm. A good supply of sawdust enabled the bowlers to get a fair foothold. Play lasted 25 minutes, and Canterbury won the memorable match by 114 runs. Collins and Hutchings resumed for Wellington. Any hope Wellington had of winning was soon shattered, for Cunningham with his third hall clean bowled Collins. 161-8-46.
Condlilfe followed, but after scoring five, lifted one from Read to forward short log, whore Newman brought off a fine catch. 166-9-5.
Henderson opened with a single to leg. He (hen played a maiden from Read. Three singles came from Cunningham’s next over. 170 going on the hoard.
