DUNEDIN BAND CONTEST
Arrangements r or llio forthcoming bund contest ere now well in hand. Mr Christopher Smith, tho adjudicator, arrived last Friday, and the visiting bands will all reach here on Saturday. Ihe contest will commerce in 11 is Majesty’s Theatre on Monday morning, and will continue every^morning, afternoon, and evening until February 24. Tho B glade test selection is the popular '•William tell.” The First grade lest selection is ‘TI Crociato in Egypt” (Meyerbeer). This selection abounds in tuneful imisio and gives the bands good scope for artistic work. The second A grade test selection is ‘‘Lohengrin” (Wagner), which is considered one of the finest brass Hand
arrangements of this delightful opera. Ihe week’s ptogrammo will be brought to a conclusion on the Saturday evening, February 24, with an ‘‘Own Choice Contest. On the same afternoon tho grand military display and Quickstep Competition will take place on the Caledonian Ground. 'llic contest. will undoubtedly be of an inteicslnig nature, with such well-known bands as (he Wanganui Garrison, Redferu (Sydney), Waterside Workers (Wellington), Kailcwai, and St. Hilda competing.
