WHY DOMESTICS EMIGRATE. LONDON, January 26. “ Wliy are you emigrating to Australia '” tho Daily Mail asked a hatch of 54 domestics who sailed on the Jervis Bay. “ Because wo are ‘ fed up' with the social distinctions of England, and wc hope to better our conditions in Australia,” was the general reply. Some said that they understood that in Australia they would bo taken in as “ ono of the family.” Others said they thought there were more chances of success. “There is more money .and less work in Australia,” said one. Another complained that she had heard that mistresses gave maids warmed-up lea, and so England “ would not do her.” She was sure that it was not done in, Australia.
