CITY POLICE COURT

Thursday, February 8. (Before Mr J. K. Bartholomew, S.M.) Theft of Money.—A youth named Robert Henry Brockie admitted having stolen SI 17s lOd belonging to George Boot, on January 17._Lchief-detec.tive Bishop stated that the youth had been before the court in May, 1923, on five charges of theft, and had, on that' occasion, been convicted and ordered to come up tor sentence when called upon, ho to make restitution.—Mr F. G. Gumming informed the court that the restitution represented £135, and that accused had made no attempt to make restitution; neither had ho complied with the terms of his probation. Ho (Mr Cummings) could not consequently recommend an extension of the order. Accused, who came of respectable parents, had had his chance.—Detective Bishop said that the dates over which tho present thefts ranged extended from January 5 1922, to January 17 of the present year. Accused had collected sums of money due to his omplover and converted them to his own use. —The Magistrate remarked that there was only one course for him to pursue in view of tho whole circumstances, but’ he would remand tho case, in order to hear any representations on accused’s behalf that it might Ire desired to make.
