' The Corinna, which arrived here yesterday morning from New Plymouth, via Welling'lton; ©ailed hist- night for Nelson and New Plymouth, via ports • The intercolonial steamer Moeraki, from Melbourne, is due at Wellington to-day, •thence Lyttelton, and Dunedin, and is due hero about Thursday. She is to sail the eame day for Bluff. The Kotare, with a cargo of timber from Waikawa, is due here to-morrow, and is to Bail on Thursday for Bluff, Invercargill, and ißiverton. The Holmdale, from Wellington, is due here on Friday, and is to sail the same day for Wanganui, via ports. The.' Waitomo, which has been undergoing overhaul at Port Chalmers, wiUt leave in a day or two for Newcastle. The Rira, from Auckland, via Wellington, discharged a few tonsjof explosives in the lower harbour before coming up to Dunedin to load for Auckland. The British-India steamer Culna berthed at Port Chalmers yesterday morning to discharge about 400 tons of benzine and other cargo. The Culna, which carries an Indian crew, loaded about 400 tons of sulphur at ' Galveston, and the balance of her cargo, principally case- oil and basic slag, at New Orleans, She is to leave at noon to-day for Bluff, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney to complete discharge. ♦ ISLAND STEAMER FLORA. The Union Steam Ship Company's Island Bteamer Flora, which has been tied up at Auckland since November 9, is at present undergoing overhaul. She will be recommiasioned this week, and will, sail for southern ports. .» PROVISION DEPOTS. It is notified that until furtheT notice the provision depots maintained by the New Zealand Government on the Auckland, Bounty, Campbell, Antipodes, and Snares Islands will be visited only once in each year. ♦ THE CITY OF EVANSVILLE. An 'arrival at Auckland late on Thursday night was the steamer City of Evansville, cargo laden from New York, via Philadelphia and Newport News. The vessel, which is coming to the agency of the Federal Line, is expected at Wellington, via Napier, about February 5. She will late* proceed to Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete discharge. WITHIN WIRFJLESS RANGE. The following vessels were expected to bo ■within range of the under-mentioned wireless stations last night:—Auckland: Ulimaroa, Navwk, Government s.s. Tutanekai, Canadian Pioneer, Mahana, Piako, and Kaiwarra. Wellington: Wahine,''Maori, Ngaio, Manuka, Moeraki, Kauri, Wingatui, Wanaka, Tuhiti, Arawa, Bembridge, Cumberland, Kumara, Port Elliot, Ruapehu, Port Chalmers, and Marama. Chatham Islands: Carpentaria. THE CANADIAN PLANTER. '• Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co. have recoiled advice that the Canadian Government Lin* steamer Canadian Planter, from Sydney (Capev Breton), and Australian ports, should reach Bluff on February 15. and Dunedin two days later. She will load here for American ports, and will then proceed to Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Auckland to complete loading. The vessel is set down to sail from Auckland on March 3 for New York, Boston, and Halifax. o TUTANEKAI'S MOVEMENTS. The Tutanekai commenced coaling at Opua {Bay of Islands) on Friday. She will visit the Three* Kings light, where she 'was due yesterday. Kaipara and Onehunga are the only lights remaining in her northern itinerary, and she will then return to Wellington. The Tutanekai should arrive back at Wellington on Sunday. : 'TWO FATALITIES ON SCHOONER. During the voyage from Durban of the five-masted schoorer Elinor H., which arrived at Newcastle on January 17, two seamen were lost within 2-1 hours. The vessel was about a fortnight out from Durban when one man was lost overboard from the jib-boom and the other man fell off the crosstrees on to the deck and wae killed. The Elinor- H. is to load a cargo of coal at Newcastle for the Hawaiian Islands. o ..,' KAIKOURA CLEARED PANAMA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Kaikoura, which sailed from Liverpool for New Zealand on December 18, and experienced stormy weather in the Atlantic, was delayed four days at Colon undergoing repairs. She cleared Panama on January 12, for Auckland, where she is duo about February 6. Her cargo is for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. Dunedin. and Bluff. She will afterwards load at Bluff, Timaru, Wellington*, Opua, and Auckland, and is to sail finally from this port about .the middle of March.

MAKURA, FROM SYDNEY. Tho Canadian-Australian mail steamer Makura, which was due at Auckland yesterday from Sydney, is to eail this afternoon for Suva and Honolulu, and should reach Vancouver on February 17. CARGO FROM SAN FRANCISCO. Burns, Philp, and Co. advise that the steamer West Cahokia sailed from San Francisco. on December 30, cargo-laden for Honolulu, Auckland, Wellington, and Australian ports. The vessel is due at Wellington about Friday. At Wellington she will discharge 10,000 ft of timber and 600 tons of gasolene. The steamer Hollywood left San Francisco on January 6, cergo-laden for Auckland, Wellington, and Australian ports. Tho vessel is due at Wellington on February 6. For Wellington the Hollywood is bringing 25,600 feet of timber, 540 tons of gasolene, and 120 tons of general cargo, PACIFIC MAIL STEAMERS. The following are the latest movements of the Pacific mail steamers: Niagara left Vancouver on Saturday, and is due at Auckland February 16. Maunganui, en route Wellington to San Francisco, due on February 5. Tahiti, en route San F’rancisco to Wellington, due on February 3. SALE OF KARAKA. FOR BLUFF OYSTER DREDGING. The well-known Wellington harbour tug, Karaka, has been sold by her owner, Mr E. G. F. Zohrab, to tho Bluff Fish and Oyster Company for use as an oyster dredge. Messrs Gilroy and Waddell, of Bluff, partners in the company, went to Wellington to effect the purchase of tho Karaka. They, ere at present in Wellington attending to the fittingnut of the vessel preparatory to her departure for Bluff, which port will be her headquarters. Captain Hamilton, at one time harbourmaster at Bluff, and late master of tho steamer Stella, has arrived in Wellington to take command of the Karaka. Tho Karaka is a wooden vessel, built in 1911, at the Taranaki streSLwharf site, by S. Wood and Son, for the Wellington Harbour Ferries (Ltd.). Mr E. G. F. Zohrab purchased the vessel from tho latter company in 1913, and has since employed her for shifting coal hulks and general towage work in Wellington Harbour. Tho Karaka’s principal dimensions are: Length, 69ft 4in; beam, 16ft; depth of hold, 7ft; gross tonnage, 43; net tonnage, 10. Her engines are by Plenty and Son, Newbury, England, and are of 22 h.p., driving a single propeller. CANTERBURY COMPANY’S NEW STEAMER. THE GALE AX LYTTELTON. The Canterbury Shipping Co. a new steamer Gale arrived in the stream at Lyttelton from London on Saturday night, and on being granted pratique, berthed on Sunday afternoon (says the Press). Tho„Galo sailed from London on November 17, and proceeded to Barry, Wales, where she coaled, extra bunkers being carried in both holds. She left Barry on November 23 for Colon, but on December 1 called at Azores for medical attention for Captain Dowell, who was indisposed. Resuming her voyage on December - 2, the Gale made Colon on the 21st, and after coaling sailed on the 22nd, clearing Balboa tho same 'day. The run down . the Pacific was uneventful, fine weather being experienced until January 7, when tho steamer ran into the tail of a cyclone, which made things uncomfortable for a couple of days. On January 10 the Gale called at Pitcairn Island. Two boatloads of Islanders, including one woman, Mrs Christian, the wife of the ’’Governor, 1 ' boarded the vessel, and remained for half an hour. The islanders presented the Gale with a generous supply of fruit, and the vessel brought away a bag of mail. Easterly winds prevailed for the remainder of the voyage until two days off Lyttelton, when strong southerly weather was encountered. The Gale is four years old, and was formerly named the Rawlinsou. She is practically a sister ship to the Canterbury Co. s Breeze. She will dock this week for cleaning and painting, and will enter the DunedmWanganui trade at the end of this week Captain P. J. Dowell, lute of the Blackball Co., brought the Gate out, and he has with him the following officers: Chief, Mr H. Harris; second, Mr R. A. Dodsworth; chief engineer, Mr W. Morris; second, Mr C E Thompson; third, Mr W. Holt. The chief officer, Mr H. Harris, was second officer of the Wiltshire when she was wfecked on the Barrier Reef last year. He intends to remain in New Zealand, and Mrs Hams is on her way out in the Kaikoura. Mr Dodsworth, tho second officer, was for many years in tho Union Castle Line, and prior to that served his time in the Shaw, Savih Co.’s clipper ship Canterbury.
