That some tenants have full confidence in their landlords was shown recently brail elderly woman who. through illness, •was a l° n g time away from her home in hospital (remarks the Auckland Star). The woman occupied a humble dwelling, and the owner of the place always thought that it took her all her time to pay Ihe rent. During her sickness ihe rent commenced ■to get a good deal in arrears, but the, landlord did not, bother much because he knew the woman was honest and would pay when she could. One day she sent for him and said that her illness was lasting much longer than she expected, and that she was worrying about the rent, and wished to nay him. Taking the key of the house from a little bag beside her she handed it to him, and said that she ■was going to tell him a secret which she knew would be safe with bim. She then indicated a place in the bouse where the money would be found, and, on going there, sure enough the landlord got tho money 'due to him. and on a. little closer examination he was astonished to find that there was more money in the house than would buy the whole property. The woman did pot recover, but before she died the landlord got her to make suitable provision for the bestowal of the money, and only tells ibo story now so that others who are inclined to stow away their savings in the recesses of their houses may be induced ■to put it in a bank or some other safe place where it ma* become interest-bearing.
