A pleasing feature in connection with thd Loyal Middlemarch Lodge is its evet-increaa- : T ing membership. The meetings are well at--1... tended, a very large proportion of members; taking a lively interest in the lodge’s wel-. ■ fare. The election of officers at tho annual meeting was keenly contested. Tho follow-.: " iu<t brethren were successful:—N.G., bro.--: 3 Watson; V.G., Bro. T. Finnic; -E.S., Bro. L. Mitchell; Warden, Bro. J. Oliver; Guardian, Bro. W. Kennedy; and Conductor, P.G.s Bros. E. Meesent and J. Orlowski. One proposition for membership was received. The meeting closed with music, and light refreshments wore handed round. A largo end enthusiastic meeting greeted/" N.G. Bro. Bretherton on'tho occasion of tho. ■ installation of officers in the Loyal Rox-> ' burgh Lodge. F.G.s Bros. Olds and Camp- -i _ bell controlled the ceremony and installed " N.G. Bro. J. R. Munro, V.G. Bro. A. Bee* E.S. Bro. J. Masking, and Warden i>ro,' ■' Bryce Ritchie. It is worthy of note that ' one family of Oddfellows in the district ia , represented in office by a member of the ■ ’ I third generation. The lodge is already making preparation for the holding of tho annual district meeting, an event which is' looked forward to with more than ordinary /' pleasure. _ The meeting of Loyal Caversham Lodge,'''' l held on January 10, was of a quiet nature,"/‘/I tho lodge bring in mourning owing to thA' 1 death of Bro. Vickery. The amount <# ~" business before the meeting was small and- 1 / quickly disposed of, after which memberfl' ; related their holiday experiences. A notico was received from the C.S. to the effect : . that the half-yearly past officers and purple , degree meeting will be held in the Loyal ' . Dunedin Lodge on February 1. .
The meeting of ■ Loyal Albion, held oa. January 11 augurs well for the success of. ,-,vr the lodge during the . ensuing term. Quitoj.'-j a good muster greeted KG. Bro. Anderson who conducted the business in an exemplary - V''. manner. Visiting brethren were present from Loyal Hand and Heart, Dunedin, and Centenary Lodges. A considerable amount ... of discussion ensued, the standard of debate being distinctly good. The elective officers - conducted a c-uchre tournament, which waa ~ thoroughly enjoyed. , ■ ' KG. Bro. H. A good at* - .- r tendance of members was augmented by,-Li visiting brethren from Loyal Hand and - Heart, Albion, Caversham, and Valley Lodges. This was largely due to the energyof N.G. Bro. Jas. Henderson who, with Ida officers, had visited all the city lodges durin®, the fortnight. Interest centred on a com- ; petition in the G.M.’s charge taken from the initiation ritual. Ten brethren competed, and with few exceptions, gave a creditable performance. P.Gf Bro. H. Wells waa’ adjudged the winner,"with KG. Bro. berbeach and P.G. Bro. Crawford close up. The priw.was a handsomely bound copy of Tennyson’s poama.
