Railways in Uganda run through jungles which have been described as "the Zoo leV loose.” Hailstones which fell to a depth of over 2ft caused great havoc in the vmevards in Southern and Central France. In some places tombstones were overturned, buildings razed, trees blown down, and bridges swept away. There is an old-fashioned precaution of keeping a goat in a stable. Supposing always that the animals are loose, the goat will leave the stable on the outbreak of lire, and the horses will follow the goat when no amount of persuasion from men will get the terrified creatures to badge.
