PICNIC
The annual picnic of the Milton combined friendly societies, comprising Oddfellows, Foresters, dnd Hibernians, took place at Evansdalo on Saturday in_ delightful weather. A special train of 14 carriages left Milton at 7.51 a.in., and arrived at Evansdalo at 10.25 a.m. Altogether 450 adult and 141 children’s tickets were issued, as compared with 471 adults and 110 children’s tickets last year, when the picnic was held at Outram. The committee worked energetically, and to its enterprise much of the unqualified success of the outing was due. The day was observed us a close holiday. Some of the principal events were: Milton Handicap, 100 Yards.—R. Chalmers (trophy value £2 2s), 1:. IV. Hassett, 3. Friendly Societies’ Handicap.—James Read 1, W. Tough 2, W. Hunt 3. ■Woollen Mill Handicap.—D. Taylor 1, F. Hayward 2. Married Ladies’ Race.—Mrs Lillicrapp X, Mrs Edlin 2. Married Ladies’ Race (Three in Family).— Mrs Lillicrapp 1, Mrs J. A. Allan 2. Married Men’s Race.—AY. Tough 1, W. Hunt 2., Tug-of-war.—Won by Miners’ team. Four teams competed. _ Married woman with largest number of family present on grounds.—Mrs James Hall (nine present).
