(Received Jan. 19, at 7.35 p.m) The Duke of York had an enthusiastic reception in London, where he attended a dinner of the Industrial Welfare Society of which ho is president. Crowds waited in the streets and cheered him on his first public appearance since his engagement. Speaking at the banquet, the Duke referred to the problems of industrial welfare. He said men of all classes were convinced that industry must be dealt with in a new spirit if we were going to get straight ilie difficiilties which troubled the nations. Scientific investigation must be applied to social conditions. The Duke said: On behalf of my future wife and myself I thank the very, many who showered congratulations and good wishes upon us.
