LONDON, January 17.—Sailed; Bardic, for Melbourne The various waterside workers’ unions of New Zealand will hold their annual picnic on Wednesday next, the fourth Wednesday in January, which is the day set aside for that purpose. Consequently, no work will be carried out at any of tho dominion ports. The Dunedin and Port Chalmers unions will hold their outings at Evansdale. The Colonial Sugar Refining Company’s steamer Rona, which loft Newcastle on Saturday morning for Auckland with a cargo of coal, reached her destination on Thursday. The Rama arrived at Lyttelton on Thursday from Waitangi, Chatham Islands, with 250 bales of wool and 750 sheep. Only one sheep was lost, an excellent record considering that very rough weather was experienced during tho last 36 hours. The Rama sailed for Wellington on Thursday night. The Kahika sailed yesterday afternoon for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. The Kamo, from Greymouth, via Lyttelton and Timaru, is due hero about to-mor-row, and is to sail on Monday for Westport and Greymouth. The Waitemata is now to leave Dunedin this evening for Newcastle, where she will load for Wellington. Tho Orepnki, which sailed early yesterday morning for Oamaru, where she will complete discharge of her timber from Port Crajg, will proceed to Lyttelton to load for Greymouth. , The Wanaka, which left early yesterday morning for Bluff, is due hero again tomorrow, and is set down to sail on Tuesday for Auckland, via ports. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. The following vessels were expected to bo within range of the under-mentioned wireless stations last night: —Auckland; Kaimanawa, ManukaT Port Elliott, and Government s.s. The next Shaw, Savill steamer from Southampton with passengers will be the Arawa, wliich is duo at Wellington on Sunday with cargo for Wellington and Lyttelton. She is to' sail again from Wellington, via Panama, oh February 15. ; Cargo for the Kia Ora, for Homo, will be lifted in March at New Plymouth, Wanganui. A cablegram received! by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company announces the arrival of the Tainui at Southampton on Sunday last from Wellington, via Montevideo and Teheriffe. The vessel sailed from Wellington on December 5, and made a good run of 40 days to the Home port. STEAMER RAiN.vDI SOLD. The Fiji Government steamer Ranadi, which arrived at Auckland on Saturday afternoon, has been sold to tho Ellice and' Gilbert Island Administration, whoso representative, Mr M’Clure, is at present in Auckland in connection with the vessel. The Ranadi.has come to Auckland to be refitted for her new owners. KOTARE RE-OOMMISSIONED. The coastal steamer Kotare, which has been tied up at the Rattray street wharf since August 15 last, will be re-commis-sioned on Monday. The vessel, which was recently sold to an Invercargill syndicate, will take up her former running in the Dunedin-Bluff-Invercargill trade. A crew has been secured, and will sign on to-day. Captain W. E. Mumbv will be in command. She is to leave on Monday for Bluff and Invercargill, and will then proceed to ' Stewart Island or Waikawa to load timber for Dunedin. TREKIEYE LEAVES AMERICA. The Trekieve left New York on Friday, January 12, for Auckland and ports, and will proceed from south to Mel bourne and "dnoy. She loaded at St. John and New York for the dominion. CUMBERLAND ARRIVES. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Cumberland, which arrived at Wellington from Port Pirie on Tuesday, will proceed to Lyttoltoh. Wanganui, Napier, Gisborne. Tokomaru Bay, and Wellington, sailing finally from Wellington about February 5. TPE MAIMOA’S ITINERARY. Tho Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s liner Maimoa is due at Wellington to-day from Timaru. She is to leave Wellington on Thursday to continue loading at Auckland and Napier, and is to leave tho lastnamed port on February 6 for London, via New York and Boston. A HARBOUR COLLISION. A slight collision at Wellington about 5.20 o’clock on Tuesday evening between the tug Terawhiti and the steamer Kakapo. The Kakapo was shifting from the Lambton wharf to tho Queen’s wharf, and the two vessels met when between the Railway and Clyde quay wharves. Strenuous endeavours were made to avoid a collision, but tho vessels came together fairly heavily. One of the Tcrawhiti’s hawse Sipes was damaged, and a bowplate on the iakapo was pierced. LONELY LIGHTHOUSE DRAMA. The Canadian cruiser Margaret, responding to signals from a lonely lighthouse in the Magdalene Islands, found one keeper dying, three others near death, and the remaining member, a woman, completely exhausted by her efforts to nurse tho sick and keep the light burning. THE INTERCOLONIAL SERVICE. The Manuka, which' was to leave Auckland yesterday, is duo at Sydney on Tuesday. The Marama, from Sydney, is duo at Wellington on January 23. She is to sail from Wellington three days later, on tho return trip. The Ulimaroa is duo at Auckland on January 23 from Sydney, and is to leave on tho return voyago on January 26. The Moeraki, from Wellington, is due at Melbourne on Monday. BEHBRIDGE, FROM NEWCASTLE The Temperlcy Lino steamer Bembvidgc, which arrived at Wellington on Tuesday from Newcastle, is a steel screw vessel of 5245 tons gross, and is one of the number constructed by the Admiralty towards tho end of tho war. She was built on the Clyde, and was launched in 1918. The vessel, which was formerly known as the War Anchuso, is a world-wide tramp, and is commanded by Captain W. R. Marrs, who was last at Wellington in the Uumbarshire in 1888. Sbo will proceed io Wanganui and Napier and Lyttelton to load wool, and is expected to leave for Hull about tho first week in February. The vessel created considerable interest at Bunbury, Australia, owing to the plucky rescue of the crew of an upturned boat, who got info difficulties whilst the vessel was in the vicinity, a boat crew putting off from the vessel and picking up the distressed and almost exhausted yachtsmen. o MAPU, AT SYDNEY. Tho Sydney Shipping List of January 10 states:—After having been officially declared “doomed” and sold for practically a song, tho three-masted schooner Valmnrio, now the Mapu, which was wrecked in Now Zealand about a year ago, has returned. She arrived at Sydney on Monday night, and is now discharging timber in Johnston's Bpy. After the vessel had run aground at Farewell Spit (N.Z.), her hull and cargo were sold By auction for £135 and £BO respectively. Tho vessel had cost £12,000 to build in 1.919, and the insurance on tho hardwood cargo was £3300. Experts visited the Spit, and stated that sho was doomed. She was so embedded in the sand that it was possible to walk on her deck from the shore. By means of horses and appliances for discharging cargo, 50,000 ft of timber was discharged in a fortnight. A strong current cleared the sand from the starboard side of the ship. At high tide the whole vessel was submerged. A week later tho Valmarie had righted herself, and after tackle had been secured she was gradually lifted out of the hole in which sho had been resting and refloated. HAKURA’S PASSENGERS. Tho R.M.S.
