BURNS ANNIVERSARY
Next week Burns Clubs all over the world will be celebrating the birth of Robert Burns, Scotland's national bard. Our local club, numerically the strongest in the southern hemisphere, has made elaborate preparations for a grand Scottish night in liis Majesty's Theatre on Tuesday next. The club has been fortunate in its choice ot speakers for its anniversary gatherings. Older members will remember the late Mr Thcs. Donniston and the Earl , of Glasgow being on the platform 25 years ago. Since then there have been the late Mr Scobie Mackenzie and Sir, John Mackenzie, the Hon. Andrew Fisher, Mr Jas, Craigie, the late Professor Bedford, and others. This year the post of honour will be filled for the first time by a Irfdy in the person ot Miss Mary H. M. King. M.A., principal of the Girls’ High School. The concert programme is of exceptional merit, Oamaru’s champion singer, Miss Elspcth Denholm, and Miss Annie Duff (Edinburgh), already well known to Dunedin audiences, the Idler’s Quartet Party, a champion reel party, and others will contribute what should prove the (host successful®gathering yet held.
