CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON. (Per United Press Association./ WELLINGTON, January 17. The Nurserymen’ Association Conference commenced at Wellington yesterday. The ieports showed good progress during the v ear in all branches, with special attention 1 aid to the eradication and chocking of pests. The hope was expressed that nur- ; srymen would work in accord with the State ,’orestry Service in conserving and replant,ng the timber forests. It was decided to make representations to the Government in regard to protecting growers from unfair competition, in so fur :ls concerned unregistered growers competing against registered growers, It was also resolved to press for a reduction of freights in certain lines of nursery stock by rail and sea; and it was decided to make inquiries regarding the maintenance of shop hours (as required by the Act), in go far as it refers to those selling seeds, plants, and sundries, so that all may conform to a uniform practice as to hours of sale. THE SECOND DAY. WTLLINGTON, January 18. The Nurserymen’s Conference decided that the next conference should be held at Palmerston North. Remits were carried urging that the council support a suggestion to set .apart portion of Somes Island a. a botanical quarantine station; that the attention of the Government be drawn to the danger of the introduction from Australia and the United States of tomato wilt, also white quail, which attacks citrus trees.
