THE WIRELESS CHAIN

FINAL DECISION PROMISED. PRESS DEPUTATION IN LONDON. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON. Januarv 8. Lord Burnham introduced a deputation from the Empire Press Union to the Post-master-General (Mr Neville Chamberlain). Speakers representing all the dominions urged the supreme necessity of something being done in the matter of the establishment of wireless stations, which would ensure quicker and cheaper communications and place Britain on an equality with other nations. Mr Chamberlain, in replying, said that the Question was not one for the Post Office alone, but for the whole Cabinet. He did not think it necessary that the stations at this end should bo operated by the same authority or organisation as in the dominions. It would be necessary to take into consideration the question of cost, and whether a useful purpose could be served by increasing the capacity of the stations in order to secure the luxury of a somewhat better service, which, however, might be disproportionate to the extra cost involved. The Post Office was considering the policy of the late Government in the light c'i ' recent developments in the dominions, but it had not yet come to anv conclusion ; therefore it was impossible for him to give a definite reply. He hoped that there would be no long delav, and that the decision on policy would be satisfactory to all concerned. The ereat Question was in regard to monev. The Government had not vet decided what size the stations would he. That was solely a technical question ; but he desired again to emphasise that money had to be taken into consideration. Mr Chamberlain said he thought that he could assure the depletion that when a scheme was announced it would he found in everv way suitable and a complementary to what had tieen done and proposed by the various dominions. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
