NEW ARM OF DEFENCE
(Fnoii Oun Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY. December 28. With the object of encouraging yachtsmen and owners of motor boats to become of use to their country in time of war, the Naval Board has given authority for (he formation of a, new voluntary reserve, to bo known ns the Narrow Waters Corps. The duties of the Narrow Waters Corps will be to became proficient in all the methods by which small craft, including highpowered motor boats, may bo used in protecting the local defences in war time. It will operate in narrow waters, and on the coast. The training of the corps will include thruse of depth charges, hydrophones, and all anti-snhmnrine devices; care and attendance of minefields and enemy-detecting arrangements of all types; the acquisition of the interesting and scientific knowledge of (he various problems connected with local defence, war ccpjipment and manning; and the running of high or lower-powered craft in all conditions. Yactsmen and motor-boat owners are entering enthusiastically into the scheme.
