LABOUR PARTY CONFERENCE. THE SOCIALISTIC' OBJECTIVE. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright CAPETOWN, January 2. There was an animated discussion at tho Labour Party’s conference at Durban on Mr Creswell’s proposal to drop the Socialistic objective clause from the Party’s constitution. Mr Creswell described the danse a? unsuited to the needs of a practical nolitical party dealing with practical objects, and as a subject of wild misrepresentation and a stumbling block in the way of a progressive party. If the Labour Party’s constitution in England was good enough for Mr Ramsay Macdonald and other prominent parliamentary representatives, surely it was good enough for South Africa! While a narrow majority favour tho proposal, it is extremely doubtful whether Mr Creswell will obtain the necessary two-thirds majority.
