UNEMPLOYMENT

SCOTTISH DEMONSTRATORS A 700-MILE TREK. Press Association—By Telegioph—Copyright LONDON, January 2. A deputation of Scottish unemployed marchers, including a clergyman who joined the trekkers in the Midlands, called on the Metropolitan Asylums Beard and protested against the workhouse diet. Questioned regarding what they thought should constitute a fair diet, the leader (Mr Hannington) remarked that some men had marched 700 miles. He suggested a breakfast of bacon, a dinner of meat and vegetables, and a tea of bread, butter, and celery, with tea. There should also be a supper. The chairman said that he was unable to authorise such a rljgt, whereupon the marchers went to the Health Ministry, where they decided to remain until they were elected. The deputation was finally escorted unresistingly from the building by a dozen constables.—Reuter.
