Cable. FEDERAL COURT’S ANSWER. WASHINGTON, December 30. (Received Jan. 1, at 5.5 p.m.) The Federal Government has filed with the Supreme Court its answer to a suit brought by the shipping lines to have set aside the Daugherty ruling providing for the transportation of liquor inside the three' mile limit. The Government declares that the United States Constitution cannot be made to conform to the foreign nations’ shipping regulations, and it adds: “We have no reason to believe that Italy and Franco will object to the recasting of their shipping regulations so as to conform to our law, as soon as that law is settled by this court.” —A. and N.Z.
