MACANDREW'S BAY REGATTA

A DELIGHTFUL DAY. Ideal weather was experienced yesterday, and a great number of people attended the annual regatta at Macamdrew’s Boy. The morning “ferries” were crowded, and, as the day advanced, each boat brought more people to swell the numbers of those who had sot out with the object of spending an' erfjoyable outing. They wore not dis-. appointed as Macandrew’s Boy presented a most festive appearance, and the _ flying bunting, band music, and the playing of gramaphones, both on motor boats and on shore, showed that the township was en fete. A former schooner, the Medoru, was brought up from Port Chalmers on Monday evening, and was used as a flagship The programme prepared by the Regatta Committee was varied and interesting, and the lovely day, with a fresh north-east breeze, proved ideal both for the rowing and yachting events. The officials, who worked very hard to make the regatta a success, got the events off promptly, and have every reason to congratulate themselves on the result of their labours. The commodore (Mr E. T._ Holler) and the secretary (Mr W. H. Riddell) deserve special mention for _ the way in which the regatta was organised, and their committee gave them every assistance. The officials were: —Judges: Messrs T. S. Mitchell, rowing; starter and umpire, Mr W. Mitchell; sailing and motor boats —Messrs J. M‘Donald, J. Vivian, and L. Kellott: press stewards, Messrs E. 1. The weather was ideal for this race, ns there was a good full sail north-east breeze, which is a most favourable wind, and is preferred to the south-west wind, which is inclined to be fluky. The course extended from the flagship to a marked buoy at iiinkley’s Bay; then to a marked buoy at Challis’s and a dead beat to windward back to the starting point. The fleet made a good start; and, on passing the flagship in the run before the. wind, with spinnakers set, the order was Heather, lona, Agnes, Eunice, Winifred, and Mona. When the fleet came into view again the Heather was still_ maintaining her lead, and got in about 1 min and 40sec ahead of the lona, with the V inifrea in close attendance. OTHER EVENTS. TUB RACE.—S.
